Holly grew up in beautiful South West Scotland where a farming upbringing bred a love and fascination with all things furred and feathered. From those early days of drawing cows and chickens on the farm, Holly has taken her sketchbooks to warmer climes and paintings of African flora and fauna are a regular feature in her work. Years of observing animals both great and small allow Holly a great understanding of their movement and character, which are themes that dominate her paintings and illustrations.
Holly studied Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art where she went on to teach in the department for a further 7 years, at the same time as developing her career as a children’s picture book author and illustrator which is where her main focus now lies. A year spent as Artist in Residence at Edinburgh Zoo in 2002 allowed Holly to get up close and personal with the animals there and produce lively paintings on a large scale, an aspect of her work that she continues to enjoy as a contrast to her illustrations and writing.
Holly now lives in Oxfordshire with her husband, three young children, Marbles the dog, six beautiful bantams and one very noisy cockerel called Mr Sprinkles. Holly works to commission and also teaches drawing and painting workshops in Oxfordshire and the Scottish Borders - for further details please feel free to contact her.
